Speaking at the centenary celebration of Dr. N. Mahalingam, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin recalled that his government had previously announced on the floor of the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly that a grand bronze statue of the industrialist would be installed at the Water Resources Department Chief Engineer's office complex in Pollachi. Stalin emphasized that establishing the memorial statue recognizes Mahalingam's pivotal advocacy for major regional irrigation initiatives, notably the historic Parambikulam Aliyar Project.
The Chief Minister explained that as a prominent legislator and public intellectual during the 1960s, Mahalingam played an indispensable role alongside former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj in conceiving and realizing the inter-state river water agreement that transformed the arid landscapes of Coimbatore and Pollachi into lush agricultural belts. Placing his statue at the regional irrigation headquarters serves as an enduring reminder of his visionary foresight in water resources planning and agrarian welfare.
Stalin affirmed that honoring historic architects of regional progress fulfills an essential civic duty. He reiterated that his administration remains dedicated to modernizing the Parambikulam Aliyar irrigation channels and completing pending canal renovations across the Kongu basin.
