Marking Thiruvalluvar Day celebrations in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally disbursed financial assistance to animal welfare organizations and animal sanctuaries under the state's newly instituted Vallalar Palluyir Kaappagangal scheme. The initiative, established to support non-governmental shelters that rescue, treat, and care for abandoned cattle, street animals, and injured fauna, translates 19th-century saint Vallalar's philosophy of universal compassion for all living beings into state policy.
Invoking Thiruvalluvar's timeless ethical declaration that all human beings are born equal, Stalin emphasized that progressive governance must extend compassion and protective care to non-human lives as well. Under the scheme, sanctioned government grants help registered animal welfare organizations modernize infrastructure, procure veterinary pharmaceuticals, and maintain rescue ambulances. Stalin commended dedicated animal caregivers for their selfless service in protecting vulnerable animals across urban and rural localities throughout the state.
The Chief Minister asserted that the Dravidian Model governance is grounded in holistic humanism that synthesizes Valluvar's egalitarian social ethics with Vallalar's universal benevolence. He affirmed that the administration will persistently fund community animal welfare programs, fostering an empathetic and environmentally conscious society across Tamil Nadu.
