Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the valedictory address at the concluding ceremony of the maiden Chennai International Book Fair 2023, broadcast live to writers, publishers, and bibliophiles across the world. Speaking at the international gathering in Chennai, Stalin celebrated the resounding success of the event, which brought together publishing representatives from over thirty countries to exchange literary copyrights and sign translation agreements.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the international book fair fulfills a long-cherished dream of positioning Chennai as a global publishing hub. By providing dedicated translation grants and state-backed networking platforms, the government successfully facilitated dozens of memoranda of understanding between international publishers and Tamil authors. Stalin observed that this dynamic cultural exchange allows Tamil creative thought to travel worldwide while introducing contemporary international writing to Tamil readers.
Stalin commended the Department of School Education and the Directorate of Public Libraries for organizing an event of world-class standards. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will make the international book fair an annual flagship fixture, continually expanding literary collaborations and demonstrating the state's deep cultural sophistication on the world stage.
