Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted extensive on-site inspections of ongoing stormwater drain construction and road restoration projects across the Adyar and Alandur municipal zones in Chennai. Stalin noted that firm, timely administrative actions undertaken by his government, including systematic drain desilting and new infrastructure investments, successfully protected the capital city from catastrophic inundation during the recent northeast monsoon season.
During his inspection tour, the Chief Minister reviewed the structural engineering and alignment of newly excavated drainage networks designed to channel excess runoff efficiently into major river basins. He instructed municipal engineers and civic contractors to expedite pending road resurfacing works, ensuring that residential streets dug up for pipeline laying are restored to smooth condition without creating public inconvenience or traffic hazards for local commuters.
Stalin emphasized that building climate-resilient urban infrastructure is an ongoing priority that demands uninterrupted monitoring beyond seasonal rains. He affirmed that the state government is executing a comprehensive, long-term flood mitigation strategy for the Chennai metropolitan area, ensuring that modern engineering solutions, timely maintenance, and rigorous field supervision combine to deliver flood-free living environments for urban citizens across the capital.
