I wholeheartedly welcome Hon'ble CJI's suggestion to make SC judgments available in all Indian languages. This along with our long-pending demand of allowing the use of State official languages in HCs will bring justice closer to the common people of our country.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin wholeheartedly welcomed the suggestion made by Chief Justice of India D.Y. Chandrachud to translate and make Supreme Court judgments accessible in all regional Indian languages. Stalin observed that translating legal verdicts into citizens' mother tongues represents a progressive leap toward democratizing the judicial process, ensuring that ordinary litigants can comprehend court rulings that directly govern their rights and liberties.
Connecting the Chief Justice's initiative to Tamil Nadu's long-standing constitutional stance, Stalin reiterated the state's persistent demand to permit the use of official state languages, including Tamil, in the proceedings of High Courts. He argued that true judicial accessibility cannot be achieved if proceedings and orders in state High Courts remain restricted solely to English, creating an alienating barrier between citizens and the judicial system.
Stalin emphasized that combining Supreme Court translations with the introduction of regional languages in High Courts will bring justice closer to the common people of India. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu will continue advocating linguistic equality in constitutional courts, ensuring that linguistic barriers never obstruct the delivery of fundamental legal justice.
