Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a resolute statement on Language Martyrs Day, declaring that Tamil Nadu will steadfastly resist Hindi imposition just as it has done since the historic agitations of 1938. Stalin emphasized that while proponents of linguistic hegemony persist in attempting to impose Hindi upon non-Hindi speaking states, the people of Tamil Nadu and the Dravidian movement remain equally unyielding in defense of their mother tongue.

Reflecting on decades of linguistic struggles, Stalin observed that the anti-Hindi movement is not merely about emotional attachment to Tamil, but a fundamental constitutional struggle for federal equality, self-respect, and democratic rights. Imposing a single language undermines India's foundational character as a union of diverse linguistic nationalities. He noted that the sacrifices of language martyrs established Tamil Nadu's proud tradition of democratic defiance against cultural centralization.

The Chief Minister reaffirmed that his administration will persistently champion the two-language policy and resist any indirect educational or administrative attempts to impose Hindi through national education policies. Stalin called upon the younger generation to stay conscious of linguistic rights, declaring that Tamil Nadu will continually safeguard its mother tongue from ideological subjugation.
