Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid solemn homage to Mahatma Gandhi on the anniversary of his martyrdom, honoring him as the monumental leader who dedicated his body, material wealth, and entire life to construct the lofty moral ideal of India. Stalin observed that Gandhi's selfless devotion to nonviolence, moral truth, and mass civil resistance transformed diverse linguistic and cultural communities into a unified anti-colonial movement, making him the eternal soul of the Indian republic.
The Chief Minister recalled Gandhi's historic visits to Tamil Nadu, particularly his 1921 decision in Madurai to discard elaborate attire and adopt the simple loincloth of impoverished Indian peasants, an enduring symbol of empathy with the working masses. Stalin noted that Gandhi recognized that national freedom remained meaningless without the eradication of social inequalities and the upliftment of marginalized classes. The moral strength of the nation, Stalin asserted, resides in upholding Gandhi's vision of compassionate, pluralistic coexistence.
Stalin concluded by asserting that preserving Gandhi's memory is essential to resisting divisive communal ideologies that seek to rewrite history. He affirmed that Tamil Nadu will continually uphold Gandhian principles of brotherhood, communal harmony, social compassion, and human dignity.
