On the solemn occasion of Martyrs' Day, observed annually on the death anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued an appeal urging citizens across India to pledge themselves to communal harmony and resolute resistance against religious fanaticism. Stalin recalled that Gandhi, who waged an uncompromising nonviolent struggle to unite diverse Indian communities into a cohesive pluralistic nation, fell victim to the violent hatred of a sectarian extremist.
The Chief Minister warned that reactionary forces seeking to divide the country along religious, caste, and cultural lines continue to pose a grave threat to India's constitutional integrity. He emphasized that true homage to the Father of the Nation cannot be paid through mere ceremonial tributes, but demands courageous defense of secular values and mutual respect among all faiths. Stalin highlighted that Tamil Nadu's social fabric remains fortified against communal polarization due to its deep Dravidian rationalist heritage.
Stalin urged youth and civil society organizations to counter hate speech and sectarian propaganda in daily life. He reaffirmed the DMK administration's unshakeable commitment to protecting minority rights, maintaining social peace, and ensuring Tamil Nadu endures as a shining beacon of inclusive secular democracy.
