Delivering the keynote address at a special state felicitation ceremony in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin honored engineers, municipal commissioners, sanitary workers, and emergency responders for their exemplary performance during recent flood prevention operations. Stalin commended the multi-departmental coordination between the Greater Chennai Corporation, Public Works Department, and Chennai Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board, stating that their proactive vigilance prevented catastrophic waterlogging across the city.
The Chief Minister noted that the administrative strategy adopted by his government shifted the state's disaster management paradigm from reactive relief distribution to preventive engineering interventions. By identifying historical flood hotspots, constructing modern stormwater channels based on expert advisory committee recommendations, and clearing natural drainage corridors, the administration successfully reduced inundation duration across low-lying residential sectors. Stalin personally presented certificates of commendation and cash incentives to exemplary ground-level workers.
Stalin emphasized that honoring dedicated public servants boosts institutional morale and reinforces a culture of excellence in municipal administration. He reaffirmed that the government will continue funding comprehensive urban drainage projects across all municipal corporations in Tamil Nadu, ensuring modern civic infrastructure safeguards citizens from climate-induced weather extremes.
