Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted the transformative impact of the Pudhumai Penn scheme, announcing that the flagship initiative has enabled 220,000 girl students across Tamil Nadu to pursue collegiate education across its first two implementation phases. Stalin described the scheme as the pinnacle of the state government's policy agenda designed to guarantee educational liberation and economic independence for young women from economically vulnerable backgrounds.
Under the Moovalur Ramamirtham Ammaiyar Higher Education Assurance Scheme, officially known as Pudhumai Penn, eligible female students who completed their schooling in state-run government schools receive a direct monthly stipend of 1,000 rupees into their bank accounts. This sustained financial buffer removes financial constraints on impoverished families, drastically reducing female dropout rates after secondary school and encouraging enrollment in degree, diploma, and technical courses.
Stalin emphasized that education represents the ultimate lifelong companion and social equalizer, empowering women to dismantle patriarchal barriers and secure rewarding professional careers. The Dravidian Model administration considers public investment in women's higher education not as welfare expenditure, but as a generational asset that strengthens societal productivity. He pledged that Tamil Nadu will continually expand educational incentives to ensure absolute gender parity across academia and the workforce.
