Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled newly erected statues of legendary freedom fighters Veerapandiya Kattabomman, the Marudhu Pandiyar brothers, and V.O. Chidambaranar, paying homage to their monumental sacrifices in the struggle against British colonial rule. Speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Stalin observed that public statues are not merely artistic installations, but powerful historical symbols that transmit the lives, public service, and sacrifices of great individuals to future generations.
The Chief Minister recounted how Kattabomman bravely defied colonial taxation demands, while the Marudhu brothers issued the historic 1801 Tiruchirappalli Proclamation calling for united Indian resistance against British imperial dominance. Similarly, V.O. Chidambaranar established the indigenous Swadeshi Steam Navigation Company to challenge British maritime monopoly, enduring grueling rigorous imprisonment and physical torment in Coimbatore central prison. Stalin affirmed that these leaders laid the moral foundations of regional patriotism and self-respect.
Stalin stated that his administration considers it a sacred responsibility to honor Tamil Nadu's anti-colonial warriors and preserve their heroic memories. By erecting commemorative monuments and organizing state-level remembrances, the government ensures that their unyielding courage against tyranny continues to inspire contemporary struggles for social justice and democratic rights across Tamil Nadu.
