Transparent and independent institutions are vital for any vibrant democracy. However, under the present BJP-led Union Government, the prestigious institutions of this country have become arbitrary and completely lost independence. (1/3)
In an opening policy statement on national governance, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin declared that transparent and autonomous public institutions are essential to the health of any vibrant democratic republic. Stalin voiced deep concern that prestigious national institutions across India have suffered systematic erosion under the present Bharatiya Janata Party-led Union government, degenerating into arbitrary bodies that have largely forfeited their statutory independence and professional credibility.
The Chief Minister noted that the constitutional architecture of India relies upon a delicate system of institutional checks and balances, where regulatory bodies, oversight commissions, and judicial mechanisms operate without political interference. When central authorities subordinate independent watchdog institutions to partisan executive agendas, democratic processes become distorted and public confidence fractures. Stalin highlighted that state administrations frequently bear the brunt of this centralized overreach, with federal institutions encroaching upon state autonomy.
Stalin asserted that safeguarding institutional neutrality is a patriotic responsibility that transcends partisan boundaries. He called for collective vigilance among political parties, jurists, and civil society organizations to restore institutional integrity. Stalin pledged that Tamil Nadu will consistently champion constitutional norms, federalism, and transparent governance against centralized attempts to compromise democratic accountability.
