Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin commemorated the birth anniversary of pioneering freedom fighter and labor rights leader Singaravelar, widely revered as the architect of thought and a stalwart comrade of working people. Honoring Singaravelar's historic legacy, Stalin described him as a revolutionary figure who introduced socialist ideals to the subcontinent, led early trade union struggles in Chennai, and organized India's first May Day celebrations in 1923.
Stalin recalled that Singaravelar forged a powerful intellectual synthesis between social reform, rationalist thought, and labor rights. Working closely with social reformer Periyar E.V. Ramasamy and the Self-Respect Movement, Singaravelar campaigned tirelessly against caste inequality, economic exploitation, and imperial domination. The Chief Minister noted that his courageous advocacy established the essential principle that workers' dignity, fair compensation, and legal workplace safeguards are inseparable from broader democratic freedoms.
Reaffirming his administration's ideological roots, Stalin pledged that the DMK government will persistently defend the welfare, health, and economic security of laborers across formal and unorganized sectors. He stated that honoring visionary historical leaders requires concrete state actions that improve workplace protections and social security for working families throughout modern Tamil Nadu.
