Expressing profound pain and righteous indignation, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin condemned a horrifying mid-sea assault perpetrated by Sri Lankan nationals against innocent Tamil fishermen hailing from the coastal district of Nagapattinam. The fishermen were intercepted within their traditional maritime fishing zone, brutally assaulted with iron rods, wooden sticks, and sharp knives, and stripped of their valuable fishing nets, navigational GPS instruments, and daily catch.
The Chief Minister highlighted that violent attacks by foreign nationals against Indian citizens are becoming alarmingly frequent in coastal waters, posing an unacceptable threat to sovereign maritime security and human rights. Stalin visited injured fishermen undergoing emergency medical treatment, assuring them of comprehensive medical care, state financial compensation, and institutional backing from the Tamil Nadu government. He remarked that such unprovoked brutality against defenseless workers is completely intolerable in civilized international relations.
Stalin demanded that the Union Ministry of External Affairs lodge a forceful diplomatic protest with Sri Lankan authorities, demanding the swift identification, arrest, and prosecution of the criminal perpetrators. He reiterated that protecting the lives, dignity, and legitimate maritime entitlements of Tamil fishermen remains a non-negotiable national priority.
