In the concluding segment of an urgent communication to the Union government, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin called upon External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to initiate high-level diplomatic engagements with the Sri Lankan administration to permanently restrain unlawful assaults on Indian fishermen. Stalin emphasized that diplomatic delay only emboldens aggressive maritime elements, endangering the lives of innocent seafarers who set out from coastal ports to secure their honest daily livelihood.
The Chief Minister pointed out that the recurrent attacks on coastal Tamil communities demand immediate, tangible diplomatic remedies rather than routine official correspondence. He proposed reviving the bilateral Joint Working Group on Fisheries to negotiate permanent dispute resolution protocols, demarcate safe navigational passages, and ensure the reciprocal release of confiscated motorized trawlers. Stalin stressed that unresolved maritime friction severely destabilizes regional social peace across coastal Tamil Nadu.
Stalin reaffirmed that the state administration stands resolutely behind coastal fishing families, providing immediate emergency financial relief, medical rehabilitation, and legal aid to assault victims. He urged the Union government to demonstrate decisive national resolve in defending the security, constitutional dignity, and livelihood rights of Indian fishing folk.
