Delivering the keynote address during the live inaugural meeting of the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin unveiled a strategic framework to protect the state's biodiversity and transition toward a low-carbon economy. Addressing renowned international climate economists, environmentalists, and administrative secretaries, Stalin emphasized that climate change represents an existential challenge demanding urgent, evidence-based policy execution rather than ceremonial declarations.
The Chief Minister detailed the state's multipronged strategy encompassing massive afforestation under the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, extensive restoration of degraded wetlands, and the implementation of decentralized climate adaptation plans across all thirty-eight districts. He pointed out that Tamil Nadu is already a national leader in installed renewable wind and solar energy capacity, pledging further incentives for rooftop solar installations and green hydrogen research. Stalin stressed that safeguarding vulnerable farming and coastal fishing communities from extreme weather shocks remains a paramount state objective.
Stalin affirmed that his administration will collaborate closely with academic institutions and global research centers to implement groundbreaking green solutions. He called upon local bodies, industries, and civil society to participate actively in making Tamil Nadu an inspiring benchmark for global ecological stewardship.
