Chairing the inaugural meeting of the Tamil Nadu Governing Council on Climate Change in Chennai, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced an ambitious roadmap to achieve comprehensive carbon neutrality well ahead of India's national 2070 deadline. Bringing together global environmental experts, climate scientists, and senior cabinet ministers, Stalin affirmed that Tamil Nadu will pioneer progressive ecological justice, ensuring sustainable industrial growth alongside rigorous natural resource conservation.
The Chief Minister highlighted the state government's pioneering green initiatives, including the Tamil Nadu Climate Change Mission, the Green Tamil Nadu Mission, and the Tamil Nadu Wetlands Mission. He outlined integrated policy interventions targeting large-scale renewable energy expansion, coastal mangrove restoration, electric vehicle adoption, and urban eco-park development. Stalin emphasized that protecting ecologically sensitive regions and vulnerable coastal communities from extreme climatic events forms a central moral responsibility of democratic governance.
Stalin directed departmental secretaries to embed climate resilience standards into all future public infrastructure, town planning, and agricultural blueprints. He reaffirmed that Tamil Nadu possesses the scientific capacity, political will, and grassroots consciousness to guide the subcontinent in sustainable environmental management, proving that economic advancement and environmental preservation can progress harmoniously together.
