Delivering a live address at the 200th anniversary commemoration of the Channar revolt in Kanyakumari, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid tribute to the nineteenth-century pioneers who led the historic upper-cloth struggle. Stalin recounted how marginalized women successfully challenged rigid caste oppression to assert their bodily autonomy and dignity. He emphasized that the struggle constituted one of the earliest organized movements for gender parity and human rights in the subcontinent.
The Chief Minister stressed that the memory of such struggles serves as a vital reminder that equality must be vigilantly protected across every generation. He noted that the progressive social architecture of modern Tamil Nadu was built upon the relentless resistance of grassroots reformers, from Ayya Vaikundar to Thanthai Periyar. Stalin warned that regressive ideologies still attempt to restore social hierarchies under various guises.
Reaffirming the mission of the Dravidian Model administration, Stalin stated that state policy will continue to expand educational avenues, economic opportunities, and civic representation for historically disadvantaged communities. He urged the gathered citizens to carry forward the emancipatory spirit of the Channar revolt to secure complete social justice.
