On International Women's Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the exceptional socioeconomic achievements of women in Tamil Nadu, declaring that the advancement of women directly powers the prosperity of the entire state. Drawing upon recent national economic surveys, Stalin highlighted that southern states lead the country in women's workforce participation, with Tamil Nadu standing at the forefront of female economic independence, higher educational attainment, and entrepreneurial agency.
The Chief Minister noted that this historic progress is the direct fruit of century-long social justice reforms pioneered by the Dravidian movement, beginning with Periyar's radical advocacy for women's education and property rights, Kalaignar's historic equal property inheritance legislation, and free bus travel for women under the current administration. By ensuring accessible public education, nutritional support, and subsidized transport, the government has removed structural obstacles that historically restricted women's mobility and financial autonomy. Stalin expressed immense pride in Tamil Nadu's women who continue to shatter gender stereotypes across all professional spheres.
Stalin reaffirmed his government's resolve to launch further transformative schemes to expand women's economic freedom. He concluded with the rallying cry that when women rise, the state and society inevitably rise.
