Chief Minister M.K. Stalin underscored his administration's steadfast commitment to expanding Chennai's drinking water resources and protecting natural water bodies across the metropolitan area. Reflecting on historic governance initiatives, Stalin noted that DMK governments have consistently conceptualized and executed landmark water security infrastructure, including seawater desalination plants, reservoir interlinking channels, and widespread lake rejuvenation works. He traced the roots of modern urban water management to his earlier tenure as Minister for Municipal Administration and Rural Development.

The Chief Minister pointed out that rapid urbanization necessitates scientific rainwater harvesting, lake reclamation, and sustainable wastewater recycling to ensure reliable freshwater supply for millions of residents. Ongoing infrastructure works are systematically expanding storage capacities at Chembarambakkam, Poondi, and Cholavaram reservoirs while restoring interconnected wetland channels to prevent monsoon waterlogging and replenish depleted aquifers. Stalin emphasized that ecological protection and modern engineering must advance together to build climate-resilient cities.

Stalin declared that his administration is resolutely pursuing the vision of a water-secure and prosperous Chennai. He pledged sustained budgetary resources and strict regulatory protection to safeguard all natural lakes and waterways from illegal encroachment.
