Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the 50th anniversary of the Tamil Nadu Women Police, describing the force as an enduring symbol of gender liberation envisioned by the Dravidian movement. Stalin recalled that in 1973, former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi took the historic and visionary decision to induct women into the state police department, making Tamil Nadu a national pioneer in breaking patriarchal barriers. Over five decades, that initial seed has blossomed into a formidable, professional force commanding widespread public trust.
The Chief Minister highlighted that women officers have distinguished themselves across investigative branches, law and order maintenance, crime prevention, and specialized elite units. Their courageous service has dismantled long-standing gender stereotypes while making police stations far more accessible, compassionate, and supportive for women and children seeking assistance. Stalin emphasized that promoting women's leadership in uniformed services represents the core ethos of social justice under the Dravidian Model of governance.
Stalin extended his heartfelt congratulations to all generations of women police personnel who have served the state with honor. He pledged continued administrative backing to expand recruitment, promotional avenues, and specialized welfare amenities.
