On the occasion of World Water Day, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted the vital significance of holding special Grama Sabha meetings across all village panchayats in Tamil Nadu. Stalin drew upon classical Sangam Tamil literature, which has celebrated water as the fundamental source of all life and societal prosperity for thousands of years. He emphasized that decentralized village councils provide the ideal democratic platform for rural communities to deliberate on water conservation, lake rejuvenation, and sustainable groundwater management.
The Chief Minister noted that community participation is indispensable to preserving traditional water bodies, check dams, and irrigation tanks from encroachment and silt accumulation. Under the Dravidian Model administration, substantial budgetary resources have been directed toward rural desilting, channel restoration, and rooftop rainwater harvesting across both rural and urban areas. Stalin urged citizens and local panchayat representatives to treat water preservation as a collective civic duty for future generations.
Stalin called upon every village assembly to formulate localized water conservation plans suited to their agro-climatic conditions. He affirmed that securing water resources remains fundamental to ecological sustainability, climate resilience, and agrarian prosperity statewide.
