Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin officially inaugurated the Mayor Citti Babu Flyover at Velachery Vijayanagar junction in Chennai, dedicating the vital transport infrastructure to the public. Constructed by the Highways Department at an expenditure of over 67 crore rupees, the multi-tier elevated corridor is designed to alleviate chronic traffic gridlocks connecting Velachery, Taramani, Tambaram, and the IT corridor along Rajiv Gandhi Salai.
Naming the flyover in honor of former Chennai Mayor and DMK stalwart Mayor Citti Babu, who made immense sacrifices during the historic Emergency, Stalin paid homage to his legendary civic leadership and unyielding democratic struggle. Stalin noted that naming prominent civic infrastructure after movement pioneers keeps their inspiring heritage alive for future generations of urban residents and youth throughout Tamil Nadu.
The Chief Minister stressed that decongesting urban transport corridors is essential for improving citizen quality of life, reducing vehicular emissions, and supporting economic productivity across Chennai's suburban expanses. He reiterated that his administration is executing an extensive master plan of flyovers, bridges, and road-widening initiatives to build a resilient, modern transportation network suited for Chennai's growing urban population.
