Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin oversaw the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with High Glory Footwear India Private Limited, a subsidiary of Taiwan's Pou Chen Group. Under this agreement, the global footwear manufacturer will invest 2,302 crore rupees over the next twelve years to construct a major production plant at the SIPCOT industrial estate in Ulundurpet. The manufacturing venture will generate direct employment opportunities for 20,000 people, with a focus on hiring women from neighboring rural districts.
The investment project reinforces the administration's industrial decentralization agenda, directing large-scale capital investments beyond metropolitan Chennai into tier-two and tier-three regions across Tamil Nadu. By locating the production complex in Kallakurichi district, the state brings modern manufacturing infrastructure, structured technical training, and stable livelihoods to historically underrepresented rural communities.
Stalin affirmed that balanced regional industrialization remains fundamental to the Dravidian Model of governance. He noted that expanding specialized non-leather footwear manufacturing will strengthen export capabilities and support the state's vision of becoming a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2030. The administration assured continuous infrastructure support, ensuring rapid factory construction and swift regulatory clearances throughout the development process.
