Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin highlighted findings from an independent evaluation conducted by the State Planning Commission assessing the transformative public health impact of the flagship Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam doorstep healthcare scheme. Launched with the core objective of providing compassionate medical delivery directly at citizens' homes, the rigorous study revealed that the scheme has proven remarkably successful in achieving early diagnosis and timely clinical management of chronic non-communicable diseases.
The Chief Minister explained that field health workers, women volunteers, and palliative care teams conducting regular household screenings have detected hypertension, diabetes, and pre-existing kidney ailments among thousands of rural and urban residents before acute complications developed. Stalin noted that by identifying health conditions at their inception, the program prevents debilitating secondary complications, reduces emergency hospitalizations, and saves vulnerable families from catastrophic private healthcare expenses.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model governance represents not merely an administration that visits citizens at their doorsteps, but a visionary government that actively prevents illnesses before they occur. He pledged continuous financial and logistical support to expand the doorstep medical program across every village in Tamil Nadu.
