Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin moved and successfully passed a historic official resolution in the Legislative Assembly urging the Union government to amend the Constitution of India to extend Scheduled Caste reservations and statutory benefits to Adi Dravidar Christians. Stalin emphasized that religious conversion does not alter entrenched social realities or eradicate the painful generational stigma and systemic economic deprivations inflicted by the caste system.
The Chief Minister argued that denying affirmative action to Dalit citizens solely because they embraced Christianity represents an unjust discrimination that violates core constitutional guarantees of equality and freedom of conscience. Stalin pointed out that while reservations were historically extended to Dalit members converted to Sikhism and Buddhism through subsequent parliamentary amendments, Dalit Christians have been unfairly excluded from similar statutory recognitions for decades.
Stalin declared that providing restorative rights in the name of caste to communities historically oppressed in the name of caste is the only righteous path toward social justice. He urged the Union government to accept the long-standing legitimate demand of the Christian community and enact appropriate constitutional amendments without further administrative delay.
