I request Hon'ble @PiyushGoyal to intervene to protect the industry by providing sufficient time to implement the QCOs. https://t.co/65PkCMcCbM

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin formally communicated with Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal, urging immediate central intervention to address pressing concerns raised by the domestic textile and apparel manufacturing sector. While acknowledging that the objective behind implementing Quality Control Orders on raw materials is commendable in principle, Stalin conveyed that regional textile enterprises face severe operational reservations and supply bottlenecks regarding sudden mandatory compliance deadlines.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Tamil Nadu hosts a substantial share of India's spinning mills, garment manufacturers, and handloom cooperatives, employing millions of skilled and semi-skilled workers across Tiruppur, Coimbatore, and surrounding industrial belts. Stalin explained that rigid enforcement of import restrictions without adequate transition periods disrupts essential raw material supply chains, escalating production costs and threatening export competitiveness in global markets.

Stalin urged the Union Government to grant sufficient lead time for the textile sector to adapt smoothly to the new standards without incurring financial ruin. He stressed that responsive federal policy adjustments are imperative to protect micro, small, and medium industrial units and shield vulnerable manufacturing workers from widespread layoffs.
