On #WorldPressFreedomDay, I congratulate all the brave journalists with conscience, who keep the fourth pillar strong amidst attacks and intimidations.
On the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin extended warm felicitations and heartfelt solidarity to conscientious journalists and media professionals across India and the globe. Stalin commended fearless reporters, investigative writers, and photojournalists who steadfastly defend the public interest and hold power accountable despite escalating physical attacks, institutional intimidation, legal harassment, and corporate censorship.
The Chief Minister characterized an independent, courageous press as the indispensable fourth pillar of democratic constitutional governance. He noted that unbiased journalism plays a crucial role in safeguarding civil liberties, exposing administrative corruption, amplifying marginalized voices, and fostering informed public debate. Stalin expressed grave concern over growing attempts to suppress critical reportage and manipulate information ecosystems through state-sponsored coercion and targeted disinformation campaigns.
Reaffirming his administration's unwavering commitment to democratic principles and freedom of expression, Stalin urged the journalistic community to remain uncompromising in their pursuit of factual truth. He pledged that the Dravidian Model governance will continually protect the rights and professional safety of media personnel, recognizing that a vibrant, uncensored press is vital for preserving healthy democratic institutions.
