Chief Minister M.K. Stalin hailed the historic ruling delivered by a Constitution Bench of the Supreme Court of India, which unanimously upheld the constitutional validity of Tamil Nadu's Jallikattu legislation. Stalin described the judicial verdict as a momentous triumph etched in golden letters in the state's cultural history, vindicating the protracted legal and popular struggles waged to protect traditional bovine sports.
The Chief Minister highlighted that the judgment confirmed the legal durability of the state amendment enacted to safeguard ancient rural heritage and native cattle breeds while ensuring animal safety protocols. He praised the state legal team and cultural researchers who presented robust historical, linguistic, and ethnographic evidence before the apex court. Stalin announced that construction of the massive, world-class Jallikattu stadium at Alanganallur in Madurai district is progressing rapidly to provide a modern, permanent arena for the beloved sport.
He declared that the upcoming Pongal festival in January 2024 would be commemorated as a grand statewide Jallikattu victory festival. Stalin affirmed that his administration remains fiercely devoted to defending Tamil cultural identity and traditional heritage against misinformed legal challenges.
