Be it Chennai Metro or the Hogenakkal Combined Water Supply Scheme, Japan has always lent support to Tamil Nadu when we needed them.

In the city of Osaka, I've highlighted the longstanding ties between Tamil Nadu and Japan and the areas of opportunity to boost them further.

Companies from Japan have so far concentrated mainly on the manufacturing sector. I have invited them to diversify our engagement by investing in the sector of industrial infrastructure development and R&D.

I am optimistic that the #GIM2024 in Chennai will have investors from Japan in large numbers and we can progress together.

Editorial context

Speaking to leading industrialists and business executives in Osaka, Japan, Chief Minister M.K. Stalin emphasized the deep, longstanding economic partnership shared between Tamil Nadu and Japan. Stalin recalled historic collaborative development projects financed with Japanese assistance, including the transformative Chennai Metro Rail Project and the landmark Hogenakkal Combined Drinking Water Supply Scheme, which significantly enhanced citizen welfare across multiple rural and urban districts alike.

The Chief Minister noted that while Japanese enterprises have traditionally focused on automobile manufacturing and precision assembly operations within Tamil Nadu, the state now presents exceptional opportunities for sectoral diversification. He invited Japanese corporations to expand investments into advanced industrial infrastructure development, research and development hubs, aerospace technology, and renewable energy storage. Stalin highlighted the presence of specialized Japanese industrial townships in the state, offering plug-and-play manufacturing infrastructure and dependable logistics networks.

Stalin expressed high optimism that the upcoming Global Investors Meet in Chennai would witness extensive participation from Japanese corporate leaders. He reiterated his administration's unwavering commitment to providing policy predictability, robust intellectual property protections, and seamless administrative support to foster enduring bilateral economic prosperity.
