Editorial context

Chief Minister M.K. Stalin strongly condemned the high-handed police action against prominent female wrestlers who were detained while protesting peacefully near the new Parliament building in New Delhi. Stalin criticized the Union Government for suppressing champion athletes who have brought international sporting laurels to India, while refusing to act against a ruling party Member of Parliament facing serious sexual harassment allegations.

The Chief Minister expressed indignation over visuals showing decorated national wrestlers being dragged, shoved, and manhandled by police forces on the very day of the new Parliament building's grand inauguration. Stalin remarked that the symbolic Sengol installed in the legislature lost its moral authority on its inaugural day due to this blatant injustice. He questioned the ethics of orchestrating administrative autocracy while the President was sidelined and major opposition parties boycotted the ceremony.

Stalin asserted that a genuine constitutional democracy demands accountability, swift justice for victims of gender-based harassment, and respect for peaceful civic protests. He demanded impartial legal prosecution against the accused lawmaker, expressing complete solidarity with the protesting athletes in their righteous struggle for dignity and constitutional justice.
