Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a strong public statement condemning the blocking and geographic restriction of Twitter accounts belonging to regional political leaders, including Naam Tamilar Katchi chief coordinator Seeman and May 17 Movement coordinator Thirumurugan Gandhi. Stalin characterized the digital censorship as an alarming infringement upon constitutional freedom of expression and democratic political discourse in India.
The Chief Minister asserted that in a robust democratic society, competing ideologies and political disagreements must be confronted through rigorous debate, dialogue, and ideological contestation, rather than administrative suppression or executive strangulation. He noted that silencing opposing political voices on digital communication platforms diminishes democratic vitality and sets a dangerous authoritarian precedent for public accountability and citizen rights.
Stalin demanded the immediate restoration of the restricted social media accounts, urging regulatory authorities and platform administrators to maintain digital spaces in accordance with constitutional principles and international freedom of speech norms. He reaffirmed that the Dravidian movement has always defended free expression and democratic dissent, pledging that the state government will continually oppose arbitrary censorship mechanisms that curtail open public discourse across the nation.
