Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a joint press conference in Chennai alongside Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, articulating a unified regional stand against the Union Government's centralizing policies. Stalin reiterated the DMK's total opposition to the GNCTD ordinance, describing it as a direct assault on the constitutional mandate of elected state administrations.
The Chief Minister asserted that the ordinance weaponizes appointed Lieutenant Governors and Governors to obstruct progressive policies enacted by non-BJP state governments. He emphasized that the struggle to protect Delhi's administrative autonomy is not an isolated regional dispute, but an urgent national battle to safeguard India's basic constitutional framework. Stalin pointed out that Tamil Nadu has consistently resisted central encroachments on state rights, fiscal federalism, and legislative jurisdiction across multiple decades.
Stalin called upon all secular and democratic opposition parties across India to unite inside and outside Parliament to defeat the ordinance. He affirmed that Tamil Nadu will continue spearheading collaborative efforts among chief ministers to preserve constitutional equilibrium, ensuring that elected governments retain the authority to fulfill citizen mandates without unconstitutional federal interference.
