Chief Minister M.K. Stalin expressed profound shock upon receiving preliminary reports of the tragic Coromandel Express train collision in Balasore district, Odisha. Stalin immediately contacted Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik by telephone to inquire about the scale of the disaster, casualties, and on-ground rescue operations underway in the affected area.
Conveying heartfelt condolences to the families of all victims, the Chief Minister instructed the Tamil Nadu administration to initiate immediate disaster response protocols. He ordered Transport Minister S.S. Sivasankar and three senior Indian Administrative Service officers to fly directly to Odisha to establish an on-site command outpost. Their mandate included locating injured Tamil Nadu travelers, ensuring advanced emergency trauma care in nearby hospitals, and coordinating smooth logistical support for relief teams.
Stalin also directed the state disaster management authority to launch emergency telephone helplines without delay, enabling anxious family members to receive verified passenger status updates. He affirmed that the Tamil Nadu government stands in complete solidarity with Odisha authorities, pledging full administrative cooperation, medical resources, and emergency assistance to assist in rescue and evacuation operations throughout the crisis period.
