Chief Minister M.K. Stalin marked the centenary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi by honoring the long historical struggle of the Dravidian movement against caste oppression. Stalin traced the ideological roots of the self-respect movement from Gautama Buddha and Ramalinga Vallalar to 20th-century social reformers. He highlighted historic pioneers including Ayothee Thass, Rettamalai Srinivasan, Pitti Theagaraya Chetty, Dr. C. Natesan, T.M. Nair, A.P. Patro, M.C. Rajah, the Raja of Panagal, Thanthai Periyar, and C.N. Annadurai.
Stalin observed that Karunanidhi led this legacy across seven decades, translating rationalist thought into concrete public welfare policies that built contemporary Tamil Nadu. Through extensive social welfare schemes, higher education access, and administrative decentralization, Karunanidhi sculpted the state into an egalitarian society. Stalin noted that honoring Karunanidhi requires steadfast commitment to state autonomy, constitutional democracy, and social empowerment for backward communities.
As the state enters Karunanidhi's birth centenary year, the Chief Minister urged citizens and party workers to protect Tamil Nadu's linguistic and constitutional rights. He affirmed that the Dravidian Model administration will continue marching forward on the path of social equality, rationalism, federal autonomy, and inclusive economic governance forged by generations of visionary Dravidian leaders.
