Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued an earnest public appeal on World Environment Day, calling upon citizens across Tamil Nadu to actively combat plastic pollution in alignment with the global theme of beating plastic pollution. Stalin urged the public to abandon unnecessary single-use plastics and wholeheartedly adopt the state's flagship Meendum Manjappai campaign by embracing traditional cloth bags for daily shopping. He emphasized that individual behavioral change is essential for eliminating plastic waste from cities, waterbodies, and agricultural fields.
The Chief Minister stressed that households, businesses, and civic institutions must diligently practice source segregation, separating non-biodegradable plastic trash to enable scientific recycling and safe disposal. Stalin noted that excessive plastic consumption poses an existential threat to marine life, urban drainage infrastructure, and soil health. He praised environmental volunteer networks and local civic bodies for organizing awareness drives to revive eco-friendly packaging habits.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model administration treats environmental conservation as a vital public welfare priority. He reiterated the state's firm resolve to enforce single-use plastic bans strictly while promoting sustainable green alternatives across all commercial sectors.
