Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin extended hearty congratulations to Ramanathapuram District Forest Officer and Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve Director Jagdish Bakan for winning the globally prestigious UNESCO Michel Batisse Award for Biosphere Reserve Management. Stalin expressed deep pride that Bakan's dedicated conservation leadership brought international acclaim to the Tamil Nadu Forest Department and the state government. He noted with satisfaction Bakan's acknowledgement that the state's newly established Marine Elite Force proved instrumental in achieving this milestone.
The Chief Minister highlighted that Tamil Nadu created India's first Marine Elite Force to combat coastal wildlife crime, prevent illegal poaching, and protect endangered marine organisms like dugongs, sea turtles, and coral reefs. Stalin conveyed his warmest wishes to Bakan as he travels to Paris to receive the prestigious international award and present a comprehensive report on the Gulf of Mannar's ecological preservation.
Stalin reaffirmed that protecting coastal biodiversity and promoting marine conservation are central priorities of the state's environmental policy. He commended dedicated forest personnel for their relentless vigilance and professional commitment in safeguarding fragile ecological ecosystems for future generations of humanity.
