Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted extensive field inspections of irrigation canal desilting projects across Tiruchirappalli and Thanjavur districts ahead of the annual opening of Mettur Dam. Stalin visited critical river regulators, distributaries, and drainage channels to personally evaluate the progress of earthmoving operations. He stressed that meticulous desilting is vital to ensure that released Cauvery waters reach tail-end agricultural lands without encountering silting obstructions or channel breaches.
The Chief Minister noted that the government has set an ambitious goal to surpass previous grain production records during the Kalaignar centenary year. Stalin interacted with farmers and agricultural engineers on site, reviewing cross-sectional canal profiles and water flow preparedness. He instructed senior district collectors and public works officials to supervise desilting operations rigorously, maintaining high standards of execution.
Stalin highlighted that timely water release combined with clean waterways enables farmers to commence Kuruvai sowing on schedule, mitigating risks associated with erratic monsoons. He reaffirmed that agricultural prosperity and farmer security remain central to his administration's comprehensive economic vision, promising continued state investments in irrigation modernization, channel lining, and subsidized farming packages.
