Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin conducted a surprise inspection of the Periyar Memorial Samathuvapuram in Konur panchayat, located within the Nangavalli panchayat union of Salem district. Originally inaugurated in 1998 by former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi to promote inter-caste harmony, the residential colony recently underwent comprehensive refurbishment following dedicated budgetary allocations made during 2021-2022. Stalin walked through the colony streets, visiting households and assessing the condition of restored houses, blacktop roads, street lighting, and drinking water facilities.
The Chief Minister interacted warmly with local residents, who expressed immense satisfaction with the quality of basic civic amenities and conveyed deep gratitude for revitalizing their neighborhood. Stalin observed that witnessing joy on the faces of diverse communities living together without caste discrimination evoked Karunanidhi's visionary ideal of turning Tamil Nadu into an egalitarian society.
Stalin emphasized that the Kalaignar Centenary year is an occasion to take these progressive ideals to every corner of society. He affirmed that his administration will continue eradicating caste prejudice by strengthening inclusive welfare spaces and modern community infrastructure across the entire state with dedicated governmental support.
