Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin released the live audiovisual broadcast of the ceremonial opening of the sluice gates at the Mettur Dam in Salem district. Showering flower petals into the surging waters of the Cauvery river, Stalin formally commenced the irrigation discharge earmarked for the Kuruvai paddy cultivation season. The event represented the third consecutive year that the Dravidian Model administration successfully facilitated the water release on or before the designated June 12 date.
The Chief Minister noted that timely water release revitalizes over five lakh acres of fertile agricultural land across twelve delta districts. He recalled that extensive desilting works carried out prior to the monsoon will enable water to reach remote tail-end tail-channels without impedance. Ministers, legislators, agricultural representatives, and senior engineering officials attended the traditional event, celebrating the promising start to the delta farming calendar.
Stalin offered his warmest wishes to the farming fraternity for a prosperous and bountiful harvest throughout the cropping period. He pledged that the state government will provide continuous technical guidance, subsidized fertilizers, reliable power supply, and assured crop procurement throughout the season.
