Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the formal opening of the Mettur Dam for Kuruvai paddy cultivation, marking the third consecutive year his administration opened the reservoir on or ahead of the customary June 12 schedule. Stalin explained that methodical planning and advance desilting of irrigation canals across the Cauvery delta ensured seamless water transmission to tail-end agricultural fields. To maximize crop productivity beyond previous records, the Chief Minister simultaneously unveiled the comprehensive Kuruvai Cultivation Package 2023.
The specialized agricultural package offers subsidized certified seeds, essential chemical and bio-fertilizers, and mechanized farming equipment to delta ryots. Stalin appealed to farmers to utilize canal waters judiciously and practice regulated water management methods to conserve resources throughout the farming cycle. He highlighted that timely irrigation support coupled with input subsidies had enabled delta farmers to achieve historic grain production during previous seasons.
Stalin affirmed that the Dravidian Model governance views agricultural welfare as the bedrock of state food security and rural prosperity. He reiterated the government's unwavering commitment to standing beside cultivating communities with comprehensive price protection, disaster relief, and modern technological inputs.
