Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin announced the statewide deployment of 103 multi-specialty mega medical camps organized by the Health and Family Welfare Department to commemorate the centenary of former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi. Stalin recalled that Karunanidhi originally envisioned and launched the historic Varumun Kaappom Thittam, pioneering preventive public health screening long before modern public health discourses recognized the vital importance of early clinical diagnosis. He emphasized that these centenary camps carry forward that humane legacy by taking advanced medical care directly to rural populations.
The Chief Minister explained that the intensive camps mobilize specialist physicians, surgeons, cardiologists, and oncologists from both government medical colleges and participating private tertiary hospitals. In addition to basic general health consultations, the camps feature comprehensive diagnostic testing facilities capable of detecting communicable diseases and non-communicable lifestyle ailments like diabetes, hypertension, and early-stage cancers on the spot. Stalin commended health ministers, doctors, nurses, and paramedical staff coordinating this massive grassroots clinical outreach.
Stalin expressed confidence that the mega camps will deliver immense diagnostic and therapeutic relief to economically disadvantaged patients who lack easy hospital access. He affirmed that accessible healthcare remains the supreme hallmark of Dravidian Model administration.
