Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin paid respectful homage to legendary anti-caste crusader and social reformer Diwan Bahadur Rettamalai Srinivasan on his birth anniversary. Stalin celebrated the iconic leader, affectionately revered as Thatha Rettamalai Srinivasan, for utilizing his scholarly education to relentlessly challenge systemic caste oppression and dismantle untouchability. He recalled Srinivasan's extraordinary moral courage in refusing to shake hands with King George V during his London visit, boldly confronting the monarch with the horrific reality of untouchability practiced in colonial India.
The Chief Minister highlighted Srinivasan's historic participation alongside Dr. B.R. Ambedkar at the First and Second Round Table Conferences in London during the 1930s. Working in close ideological unison, the two stalwarts championed separate political representation, civil rights, and statutory safeguards for the Depressed Classes before imperial authorities. Stalin noted that Srinivasan's tireless advocacy laid the foundation for modern affirmative action policies in public education and employment.
Stalin called upon the younger generation to draw inspiration from the indomitable spirit of Dravidamani Rettamalai Srinivasan. He pledged that the DMK government will pursue the struggle for complete social equality without compromise.
