I have written to Hon'ble @rashtrapatibhvn apprising about the unconstitutional functioning of the Tamil Nadu Governor, his disregard for elected government and the state legislature, and overreach in state affairs. The Governor's acts of delaying assent to bills, interfering with police investigations, and promoting divisive ideologies are a threat to democracy. I trust the Hon'ble President will take appropriate action to protect the spirit of our Constitution.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin submitted an exhaustive official memorandum to President of India Droupadi Murmu, documenting persistent unconstitutional conduct and administrative overreach by Tamil Nadu Governor R.N. Ravi. Stalin detailed how the Governor has systematically disregarded the advice of the elected state cabinet and undermined the constitutional authority of the Legislative Assembly. He highlighted that indefinitely delaying assent to duly passed state bills cripples democratically mandated governance and violates fundamental parliamentary conventions.

The Chief Minister cited instances where the Governor interfered directly with ongoing police investigations, made public speeches disparaging state policies, and promoted divisive ideological positions from an official constitutional office. Stalin stressed that such unilateral actions violate Article 163 of the Constitution, which binds the governor to act on the aid and advice of the Council of Ministers. He noted that unelected titular heads cannot function as political adversaries against elected state administrations.

Stalin urged the President to intervene decisively to preserve constitutional governance and democratic norms. He expressed confidence that the President will take appropriate corrective measures to protect the federal spirit of the republic.
