Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin laid the foundation stone for modernizing the historic M.C. Rajah Adi Dravidar College Students Hostel in Saidapet, Chennai, interacting with resident scholars. Stalin recounted that the Dravidian movement emerged to demolish systemic social hierarchies that historically denied education to marginalized communities. He recalled that Justice Party leader Dr. C. Natesan established the pioneering Dravidar Illam in Chennai to house non-Brahmin students, while veteran leader M.C. Rajah championed night schools and student hostels to enable untouchable youth to secure academic advancement.
The Chief Minister noted that former Chief Minister K. Kamaraj established the Saidapet hostel in 1961 to provide free lodging for scheduled caste collegiate scholars. To meet contemporary requirements, the state government undertook a comprehensive reconstruction project providing modern dormitory rooms, digital computer labs, and dining halls. Stalin affirmed that public investments in student hostels directly dismantle generational poverty.
Addressing the assembled students, Stalin reiterated that education remains the only imperishable asset that empowers marginalized youth to overcome structural adversity. He pledged that the state government will continue upgrading student facilities to ensure equal educational success.
