I have written to Hon'ble @PiyushGoyal to draw his kind attention to the worrying trends in food inflation. Prices of essential commodities have burdened the poor and middle-class families. Our government has implemented short-term and long-term interventions to address this issue, but more support is required. Hence, I request your immediate assistance in expediting imports and allocating 10,000 MT each of wheat and tur dal per month from the central stock.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin addressed a formal communication to Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Piyush Goyal, expressing grave concern over spiraling food inflation and price spikes in essential culinary commodities. Stalin highlighted that escalated retail rates of staple pulses, wheat, and vegetables have placed an unsustainable economic burden on impoverished and middle-income families nationwide. He detailed the extensive proactive measures instituted by the Tamil Nadu government, including subsidized sales through cooperative fair price shops and targeted market intervention mechanisms.
The Chief Minister noted that despite sustained state-level interventions, additional support from the Union government is imperative to stabilize regional market prices effectively. Consequently, Stalin urged the Union Minister to expedite international pulses imports and sanction a monthly allocation of 10,000 metric tonnes each of wheat and tur dal from central buffer stocks to Tamil Nadu. He pointed out that releasing central reserves through public distribution networks offers the quickest relief to vulnerable consumers.
Stalin urged the Centre to act promptly in a spirit of cooperative federalism. He emphasized that collaborative Union-state coordination is essential to shield working-class households from inflationary pressures and ensure nutritional security.
