Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin issued a commemorative address on Tamil Nadu Day, celebrated on July 18 to mark the historic legislative resolution moved by former Chief Minister C.N. Annadurai in 1967 that officially renamed Madras State as Tamil Nadu. Stalin emphasized that the name Tamil Nadu represents the living soul and collective dignity of Tamils rather than a mere geographic label. He recalled that while linguistic reorganization took place on November 1, 1956, our motherland had to wait eleven more years until the DMK assumed power to secure its rightful historical name.

Stalin paid homage to revered leaders whose relentless struggles paved the way for state naming, including Thanthai Periyar, Maraimalai Adigal, Somasundara Bharathiyar, martyr Sankaralinganar, and Ma. Po. Sivagnanam. He highlighted that their sacrifices established the foundational principles of self-respect and linguistic equality that continue to guide state policies today.

On this significant anniversary, the Chief Minister urged citizens to resolve collectively to maintain Tamil Nadu as the leading state across all developmental indices. He declared that Tamil Nadu's progressive light must illuminate democratic governance throughout India.

This is an initiative of unofficial DMK and Dravidian Ideology supporter, a fan of Thanthai Periyar, Perarignar Anna and Kalaignar — not affiliated with any official DMK party or persons.
