Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin celebrated the transformative successes achieved by the state's agrarian sector while addressing the grand Velaan Sangamam 2023 agricultural conclave organized in the Cauvery delta region. Stalin reviewed flagship initiatives implemented under the Dravidian Model governance, highlighting Kalaignar's All Village Integrated Agriculture Development Programme, the Chief Minister's Rainfed Land Development Mission, the Sustainable Green Cover Scheme, irrigation modernization projects, and digital soil fertility management systems.
The Chief Minister detailed remarkable agricultural output milestones, noting that food grain production reached an extraordinary 119.97 lakh metric tonnes during the 2021-22 fiscal year. By opening the Mettur Dam well ahead of conventional schedule in 2022, the government enabled delta farmers to cultivate Kuruvai paddy across an unprecedented 5.36 lakh acres. In addition, the administration provided over two lakh free agricultural electricity connections to cultivating farmers, ending years of waitlist backlogs.
Stalin emphasized that staging comprehensive agricultural exhibitions like Velaan Sangamam accelerates the commercialization and mechanization of farming. He pledged that Tamil Nadu will continue prioritizing farmers' prosperity through technological modernization, subsidized inputs, and robust irrigation infrastructure to secure lasting agrarian sustainability.
