Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin delivered the presidential address during the centenary valedictory ceremony organized to celebrate the illustrious life of venerable Tamil scholar Pulavar Ma. Nannan in Chennai. Speaking before a distinguished gathering of literary figures, academicians, and Dravidian thinkers, Stalin highlighted Nannan's multifaceted achievements as a pedagogue, linguist, and dedicated social reformer who made Tamil learning a joyful pursuit for millions across generations.
The Chief Minister recalled Nannan's close association with former Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and his unwavering commitment to teaching correct Tamil pronunciation, spelling, and syntactic precision. Stalin emphasized that Nannan utilized mass media tools, including state television and radio broadcasts, to bring grammatical literacy into ordinary households with effortless clarity. He underlined that the Dravidian Model government considers safeguarding classical language traditions, supporting vernacular writers, and celebrating foundational scholars as essential public responsibilities that strengthen cultural resilience.
Stalin called upon contemporary teachers and educational institutions to adopt Nannan's student-friendly pedagogy to inspire young learners. He pledged that the Tamil Nadu government will continue instituting scholarly chairs, publishing research monographs, and encouraging classical Tamil studies worldwide to enrich world literature.
