I seek the immediate attention of Hon'ble @PMOIndia to save the farmers of Cauvery delta. The Kuruvai paddy crop, vital for Tamil Nadu's rice production, is in jeopardy due to a massive shortfall of 28.8 TMC of Cauvery water.

The Cauvery delta, our rice bowl, relies on this water for survival. I urge Hon'ble @narendramodi to advise Karnataka to honor the Hon'ble Supreme Court's order and release our due share as per the schedule.

Editorial context

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin dispatched an urgent official communication to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate central intervention regarding the acute water shortfall in the Cauvery basin. Stalin informed the Prime Minister that Tamil Nadu faces a massive deficit of 28.8 thousand million cubic feet of water due to Karnataka failing to adhere to the Supreme Court mandated monthly release schedule. He highlighted that water levels in Mettur Reservoir have depleted dangerously.

The Chief Minister underscored that the standing Kuruvai paddy crop across the fertile Cauvery delta districts, recognized as Tamil Nadu's rice bowl, faces imminent destruction without urgent irrigation supplies. Over five lakh acres of paddy cultivation depend directly on Cauvery river flows during this critical vegetative stage. Stalin urged Prime Minister Modi to instruct the Union Jal Shakti Ministry and Karnataka authorities to honour binding judicial orders and release the allocated water without delay.

Stalin emphasized that the livelihood security of lakhs of hardworking farming families hangs in the balance. He affirmed that the Tamil Nadu government remains steadfast in defending riparian rights through lawful constitutional mechanisms.
